GREENWOOD, Ind. (Sept. 30th 2015) – Greenwood police are searching for a killer following an early morning shooting.

The victim was shot and killed outside the Four Seasons restaurant on south Meridian.

Police say the victim worked at the restaurant and was gunned down in the parking lot.
The victim is identified as 34-year-old Miguel Hernandez of Indianapolis.

“That would be the last thing we’d expect to happen in a place like this. It’s very unfortunate and it’s shocking,” said customer Leslie Potts.

Throughout the day customers came to business only to find the doors closed out of respect for the employee killed.

Everyone struggled to make sense of the violence.

“This is a great place and a family owned restaurant. We eat here frequently. It’s very unfortunate that happened this morning,” said customer Laura James.

Greenwood police say employees and customers were inside eating when they heard several gunshots.

While the motive behind the murder remains a mystery, police do not think this is a random killing.

“If it’s random, it’s very rare,” said Greenwood assistant police chief Matt Fillenwarth. “If you’re a victim of violent crime, usually it’s someone you know, because most people don’t murder people for no reason.”

During the day investigators used metal detectors to search around the business.

Police did not have any description of a suspect to give out, but say the public shouldn’t feel threatened.

“We don’t think this was a random shooting, so there’s a motive and once we discover that it pretty quickly leads you to a suspect,” said Fillenwarth.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact Greenwood police.

The restaurant provided CBS4 with the following statement:

As you can imagine, we are shocked and saddened by the tragic incident that occurred this morning. Due to the ongoing police investigation and out of respect for the victim and his family, we will not making any further statements at this time. Thank you for understanding.
