INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Nov. 13, 2015)—Indianapolis police continue to search for the person who killed a pregnant mother and pastor’s wife.
On Friday, leaders with the IMPD joined several other law enforcement agencies to update the investigation into the death of Amanda Blackburn. The young mother was gunned down inside her own home this week.
For the first time, police provided a solid timeline for what they think happened.
They also confirmed the killer had broken into another home in the neighborhood before the murder.
The murder has clearly enraged the city’s law enforcement.
“We’re angry. We’re upset. We are frustrated and so is the community,” said IMPD police chief Rick Hite.
Flanked by investigators with multiple agencies, Hite talked about the Blackburn case.
The victim was shot in the head during a home robbery and detectives have now linked the killing to nearby home burglary.
“At about 5:30 a.m. is when a burglary occurred two doors down,” said IMPD Major Eric Hench.
Investigators say just after 6 in the morning, Davey Blackburn left home to go to the gym.
Police say that’s when the killer struck.
“We believe when Mr. Blackburn left home to go work out, the suspect saw that as opportunity to burglarize another home,” said Hench.
After Blackburn was killed, a neighbor told police they saw someone in a dark colored hoodie traveling from the first home and later saw the same person leaving the Blackburn home.
IMPD has a message for the person responsible for killing Blackburn.
“To the individual who committed this crime, you’re not as good as you think you are and we will find you. We will not stop until we get you,” said Hench.
After the death, police met with neighbors near the Blackburn home and promised they are doing all they can to catch the killer.
“Everybody’s angry. We’re angry and they’re angry. We left that meeting understanding we need one another. It’s important to work together,” said IMPD Capt. Lorenzo Lewis.
The FBI and State Police have also promised they too will help IMPD solve the case.
“We’ll never repair the damage to the family, but we will bring justice,” said FBI special agent Jay Abbott.
“For those responsible for killing Amanda, we are coming,” said ISP superintendent Doug Cater.
Police say they do have surveillance pictures of the possible suspect, but so far police have not released that photo.
